ForgeWorld Chaos Giant Spined Beast

One of the first miniature I painted using the airbrush. I worked the green skin using purple for shading and yellow for lights. I was quite amazed by the result even though I was a complete newbie with the airbursh. I realized that day how cool this tool could be to paint large surfaces. I will now change few things, such as the color of bone pieces (spines and "teeth"). I'm still quite bad to do horns and so on, I have some difficulties to do cool transitions and color choice. Anyway, this piece (unfortunately no longer in production if I remember well) is terrific. Really love it. Intimidating and with a lot of interesting things to paint (skin, flesh, muscles, tendons, horns, veins, etc.).

Une des premières figurines que j'ai peint avec l'aérographe. J'ai travaillé la peau en utilisant du violet pour les ombres et du jaune pour les éclaircissements. J'ai été assez étonné du résultat, meme si j'étais un débutant complet à l'aérographe. J'ai réalisé à quel point c'était un outil utile pour les larges surfaces. Je changerai quelques petites choses maintenant, comme la couleur des parties osseuses (épines et "dents"). Je suis encore assez mauvais pour faire les cornes et autres, j'ai des difficultés à avoir de belles transitions et une couleur juste. Quoi qu'il en soit, cette pièce est superbe (enfin il faut être "sensible" aux monstres). Je la trouve géniale, intimidante et avec des tas de choses intéressantes à peindre (peau, muscles, tendons, cornes, veines, etc.). Dommage qu'elle ne soit plus produite...

GW Exalted Deathbringer with Ruinous Axe

 

I was really interested in the violence emanating from this miniature. He is anchored in the ground and you can almost see three axis from the ground to the weapons and head. I think the posture of this deathbringer is intimidating and he has a lot of chaotic features which are quite fun to paint. This is really in a typical Games Workshop chaotic style but I like this one and I was really careful in painting him. I really wanted to make a statement to myself at that time. In order to do so, I found pictures of a well-painted version I liked and tried to copy some of its details. For example, I reproduced the different hues on the axe to the best of my abilities, but I also made my own choices. He is not very contrasted, quite cold, only the purple pagne and hairs (?) are giving some colours. But the base is warm. I did it using a simple bark piece and pigments, to give this dusty effect. Skulls were added to place the deathbringer in some realm of chaos or battlefield. In the end, this miniature is still one of my best, even though I did it almost two years ago.

J'étais vraiment intéressé par la violence émanant de cette figurine. Il est ancré dans le sol et on peut noter trois axes allant du sol aux armes et à la tête. Je trouve que sa posture est intimidante et il a de nombreux détails chaotiques amusantes à peindre. C'est une figurine "GW chaos" typique mais je l'aime beaucoup et l'ai peint très soigneusement. Je voulais vraiment faire un effort avec lui, lui consacrer du temps pour pousser mes limites. Pour ce faire, j'ai trouvé des images d'une version bien peinte que j'appréciais et j'ai essayé de copier certains détails. Par exemple, j'ai reproduit les différentes teintes sur la hache au mieux de mes capacités, mais j'ai bien sûr fait aussi mes propres choix. Il n'est pas très contrasté, plutôt froid, et seul le violet du pagne et des cheveux donnent de la couleur. Mais la base est chaude et réchauffe l'ensemble. Je l'ai composé avec une simple pièce d'écorce et des pigments, pour donner cet effet poussiéreux. J'ai ajouté des crânes pour situer ce Deathbringer dans quelque royaume du chaos ou champ de bataille. Au final, cette figurine est toujours je pense une des mes plus réussies, même si je l'ai faite il y a presque deux ans.

Necromunda Goliath Gang

I am really inspired by the "Necromunda" background. Gang wars in gigantic ant-like human colonies living in the darkness of the Imperium... To me, this is what really defines the Warhammer 40K universe. This Imperium is not about the light of a conquering humanity, but about the shadows which lay inside and outside. I think it is what gives to W40K its mesmerizing power over imaginations. Necromunda really focuses on the by-product of the human glory: work slaves, people who have never seen any sunshine, death amidst general indifference, etc. I have several gangs I want to paint, but the Goliath one was the first I made. There are supposed to be game miniatures, so I painted them in two days. Here I choose something dark but still contrasted, and I think the greenish orange and this blue are doing the job. I tried different skin tones to work on my basics, and try to play on the crazy look. These dudes are called the Bronze Crushers. As you can see, I messed up with the eyes of one guy but kept it like this because it looked like a dumb mutant.

Je suis vraiment inspiré par le background de Necromunda. Des guerres de gangs dans des colonies gigantesques vivant dans les ombres de l'Imperium... Pour moi, c'est ce qui définit réellement l'Univers de Warhammer 40K. Cet Imperium n'est pas l'histoire brillante d'une humanité conquérante, mais celles des ombres qui se rouvent à l'intérieur et à l'extérieur de l'empire. Je pense que c'est ce qui donne son pouvoir hypnotisant à cet univers. Necromunda se focalise sur ces sous-produits de la glorieuse humanité: ouvriers esclaves, humains n'ayant jamais contemplé un coucher de soleil, mort dans l'anonymat, etc. J'ai plusieurs gangs à peindre, mais le gang Goliath a été le premier fini. Il s'agit de figurines de jeu et je les ai donc peints en deux jours. J'ai choisi quelque chose de sombre mais de tout de même contrasté, et je pense que cet orange verdâtre et ce bleu font le travail. J'ai également essayé différent tons de peau pour travailler mes bases. Je les ai appelé les Bronze Crushers. Comme vous pouvez le constater j'ai raté les yeux d'un des types mais je l'ai gardé tel quel car j'aimais son apparence de mutant idiot.

Chaos Lord for Warhammer Quest

Simple one here, few hours of work. I did him keeping in mind he will be a character in Warhammer Quest. I was quite happy with the skin, because I wanted something which should look tanned, almost burned. This guy has something to do with the inner fire of Chaos forces. I also worked on his crown, but honestly the transitions are not really good. I put some dirt on the cape, and some blood on the axe. The battle marks on the sword are somehow too clean, but I still like the overall contrast between the blue-grey cape and the orange tanned skin.

Un travail simple, quelques heures de travail. J'ai fait cette figurine en tant que personnage pour Warhammer Quest. J'étais assez content de la peau, parce que je voulais une peau bronzée, presque brulée. Ce gars a ce feu intérieur que lui donnent les forces du chaos. J'ai travaillé la couronne pour avoir des transitions, qui ne sont d'ailleurs pas assez propres. J'ai ajouté de la poussière à sa cape, et du sang sur la hache. Les marques de bataille sur l'épée sont trop propres, mais j'aime le contraste global entre la cape bleue-grise et la peau bronzée orangée.

Curseling, Eye of Tzeentch

A great miniature, with a real atmosphere. The whisperer demon tells a story by himself. However, I was not satisfied with the original head, which is why I simply replace it by a skull. You can see here one of my favourite colour combination: purple, golden yellow and turquoise. About the base, as I'm using this miniature with Warhammer Quest which has some great tiles, I chose a transparent base with some engraving on it.

Une superbe figurine, avec une vraie atmosphère. Le démon chuchoteur raconte une histoire à lui tout seul. Cependant je n'étais pas satisfait par la tête originelle, c'est pourquoi je l'ai simplement remplacé par un crâne. Vous pouvez voir ici une de mes combinaisons de couleurs favorite: violet, or doré et turquoise. Comme j'utilise cette figurine avec Warhammer Quest qui dispose de belles tuiles, j'ai choisi une base transparente légèrement gravée.
